Agate derives its name from the Greek "Agate?" – meaning happy. Commesso is a technique of fashioning pictures with thin, cut-to-shape pieces of brightly colored, semiprecious stones, developed in Florence in the late 16th century. Agate is one of the gemstones used in Commesso, also called Florentine Mosaic. The Agate industry grew up centuries ago in the Idar-Oberstein district of Germany, where agates were abundant. Agate was highly valued by ancient civilizations, such as the Egyptian. On 1stDibs, find a wide range of antique, new and vintage earrings today.Agate was discovered with the Stone Age man in France 20,000-16,000 BC. While there is no shortage of modern earring designs to choose from, the classics, like coral earrings, Art Deco–style earrings and diamond drop earrings are still heavy hitters. Sure, jewelry trends and the fashion darlings of social media come and go, but earrings have a staying power that seems impenetrable: The still-strong love affair between British royals and Cartier earrings is more than a century old, glossy 1970s hoops from legacy houses such as Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels remain the statement makers they’ve always been and although people have been stacking earrings for many moons, the allure of an expertly mismatched stack of charms and studs still feels fresh and new. Today, ear piercing is very popular all over the world, and, as a result, it is difficult to overstate how much everyone pines for a good pair of earrings - modernist drop earrings, glamorous Victorian hoops, geometrically complex chandelier earrings, you name it. Hoop earrings are imbued with symbolism and cultural significance for many, and on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Ancient Near Eastern Art Gallery is a pair of simple gold hoops from Mesopotamia dating to between 26 B.C. ![]() Earrings worn by the affluent in early Roman civilizations were set with precious stones such as diamonds and pearls, and a clean-looking pop of pearl on the front of the lobe is as timeless as ever. The highest-quality emeralds are green or bluish-green. Emerald earrings are highly prized today, and their quality lies in their rich, saturated color. Women wore ornamental earrings - studs and hoops at the very least - in Ancient Egypt, which is home to mines that are among the earliest sources of emeralds in the world. In fact, wearing earrings actually goes back thousands of years, and you can find many tangible connections between now and then in how we continue to talk about these treasured accessories. In the United States, ear piercing didn’t really become popular until the 1950s and ‘60s, but our desire for a dazzling pair of vintage earrings has deeper roots than that. These horns were on Boxer too, and when the coda on “Fake Empire” catches the beat differently than it does on the album, it's a papercut-subtle change that drives me nuts. ![]() It then falls to the individual to scavenge Live in Brussels for any new wrinkle: horn sections are a luxury for bands playing a hometown gig or a festival, and the National is big enough to mandate one at just about any show. Those songs still feel like people falling apart, not an entire society.īut that’s all taken care of in the first seven minutes and in all likelihood, the Brussels crowd is not here to reassess Boxer as a document of slow, steady American decline. The central metaphor of “Start a War” was daring, but not insensitive. “Mistaken for Strangers” likewise took on a very time-specific kind of sociopolitical heft shortly after its release and feels weirdly quaint in retrospect: a portrait of “economic anxiety” when that term felt like less of a coded euphemism. Were it written for 2018, “Fake Empire” would be both way too on-the-nose and too obtuse. It sounds a little jauntier, less solemn than it did originally-it was released towards the very end of Dubya’s second term, after all, where more hopeful times were clearly in sight. “Fake Empire” is technically the National’s biggest hit, so it at least feels weird as the opener of a live set in 2017. It also skews the global context of Boxer and shows just how much it was a product of its time. Live in Brussels inevitably capitalizes on the personal nostalgia driving any 10-year anniversary year celebration-the night you got way too drunk and sung “Fake Empire” in a cab home, the night you got way too drunk and listened to “Slow Show” while scrolling through ex’s Facebook profiles, and so forth. And so the utility of Live in Brussels is less about whether the National improve on any of the originals so much as offer something different than an album that has been a fixture for the entirety of its existence. “This is a sad record,” Berninger jokes at the end of “Guest Room,” before mentioning the tendency of grammar-minded fans to hear the title of the next song as “Racing Like a Pronoun.” That’s about it. I would have paid a significant amount of money to watch Boxer live in Brussels, and not a single dollar for Boxer (Live in Brussels).Īt the very least, Boxer (Live in Brussels) keeps most of its promises- Boxer played in full, in order, with no encores or stage banter indicating it was indeed recorded in Brussels and not the CalCoast Credit Union Open Air Theatre or Verizon Hall or any other late-2017 tour stop. So it’s hard to rate Boxer (Live in Brussels) both as an actual experience and as a recorded document of music. Oh, and the city of Brussels seems pretty awesome too. It’s easy to imagine them spending each pre-show reading and internalizing every backhanded compliment about their erudite image and fanbase and getting back into that 2005 headspace. It’s been a very, very long time since the National actually had anything to prove, and yet they take the stage as the same Cincinnati transplants who spent years getting ignored in New York long before their infamous tour with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah show. The National curate festivals and massively influential artist compilations, Matt Berninger’s relationship with his brother was deemed a worthy subject for a critically-acclaimed documentary, they’ve been this close to debuting at #1 on Billboard and won a Grammy in a category that actually gets televised. Boxer: classic stuff, definitive album for one of the definitive indie rock bands of 21st century. 11/13/2023 0 Comments Digit span average score![]() Why is working memory important for language comprehension? The Episodic Buffer refers to a component of Baddeley and Hitch’s Model of Working Memory. The Spatial Span Task is a behavioral measure of working memory capacity, the cognitive ability to store and manage information on a transient basis. What is immediate memory span?Ī type or stage of memory in which an individual recalls information recently presented, such as a street address or telephone number, although this information may be forgotten after its immediate use. Subjects are read a sequence of numbers and asked to repeat the same sequence back to the examiner in order (forward span) or in reverse order (backward span). The Digit Span test is a subtest of both the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the Wechsler Memory Scales (WMS). We used median as a splitting point between low and high WMC groups ending up with 34 (18 women, 16 men age M = 23, SD = 3.32) subjects in low WMC group and 35 (22 women, 13 men age M = 23, SD = 3.65) in high WMC group. What is a good Ospan score?Īverage OSPAN score was 36,60 (SD = 16,42) with a median at 36 (min = 6, max = 75). For both OSPAN and RSPAN, the dependent variable is the total number of words/letters correctly recalled. Individuals are tested on three series of each length (12 in total). In both the OSPAN and the RSPAN, each series consists of a random number of strings between two and five. Preliminary findings indicate that cutoff scores of ≤6 and ≤7 on RDS are not appropriate in adults with epilepsy, especially in individuals with low average IQ or below.Operation span (OSpan) a widely used task to assess working memory capacity, in which participants try to remember sequentially presented words in their correct order while simultaneously solving simple math equations. Preliminary results suggest that an RDS cutoff score of ≤4 may be more appropriate in a clinically referred adult epilepsy population with a low average IQ or lower. Given the less than ideal specificity rate associated with each of these cutoff scores, together with their strong association to cognitive factors, secondary analyses were conducted to identify more optimal cutoff scores. Findings also revealed that RDS scores were positively related to attention and intellectual functioning. Previously established cutoff scores of ≤6 and ≤7 on RDS yielded a specificity rate of 85% and 77% respectively. Most participants (98%) passed Trial 2 of the Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM), achieving a score of ≥45. Sixty-three clinically referred adults with a diagnosis of epilepsy or suspected seizures were administered the Digit Span subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III or WAIS-IV). This investigation aims to determine whether these previously established RDS cutoff scores could detect suboptimal effort in adults with epilepsy. Prior research has shown that cutoff scores of ≤6 or ≤7 on Reliable Digit Span (RDS) can detect suboptimal effort across numerous adult clinical populations however, these scores have not been validated for that purpose in an adult epilepsy population. Assessment of performance validity is a necessary component of any neuropsychological evaluation. 11/13/2023 0 Comments Gm dexcool 50 50The fact that Prestone was pretty mum regarding the relationship between their yellow coolant and Dex-Cool tells me all I need to know (personally). I just got some Prestone GM Dex-Cool approved coolant for my Chebby. Dexcool is ethylene glycol based, but some of the rest of the chemistry is different. It is red and ethylene glycol, but made for trucks extended service. They are designed for the purpose and apparently pass the GM6277M specification. This mixture is orange, just like the factory stuff I removed a few years back, and just like the Texaco product that I put in at that time. That in itself is enough answer for me personally. Given that they still sell both (Prestone still does), I'd assume not.
